We teach ages 3 (potty trained) - Adults
Will my child progress each year?
Yes! Students will learn specific skills each semester based on the class in which they are enrolled. You can track your student's progress through the parent portal. Young children thrive in environments of repetition and routine. Older children are ready for challenges and more variety.
What is "movement?"
We use the term movement to describe dance, stage blocking, choreography, and various types of theatrical movement studies.
If I want to speak to a teacher, should I approach them before or after their class?
Teachers are running from one class to another, so approaching them between their classes is not allowed. Doing so will keep them from their other students and obligations. Use your Parent Portal on the Wonderland app for communication. These emails come to our office staff, and we can put you in touch with your teacher or help you directly.
How do I order Wonderland merchandise?
Merchandise orders will open periodically throughout the year. When an ordering window is open, you will be able to find the catalog on your Wonderland App! We will send a push notification to let you know it's time to order!
When is the office open?
Wonderland Office Hours are Monday-Thursday 10 am-3 pm. You can always reach us by email at info@wonderlandperformingarts.com. We will get back to you ASAP.
Do you accept new registrations after the session has begun?
The answer to this question varies, depending on the class a student is trying to join mid-session. We accept registration throughout the school year for some classes. If it is not a good time to jump into a class, we will notify you and try to accommodate you to the best of our ability.
Classes
When will classes start?
We anticipate classes to start in January of 2021. This is subject to change due to the construction of our new facility at 2807 Johnston Street, and COVID-19. Once you are registered for classes, you'll receive the latest updates regarding our official grand opening date.
What do I do if there is a waitlist for a class?
Join the waitlist if a class is full! A waitlist lets our Wonderland staff know that a class needs an additional section added to our schedule. Once there are enough students on the waitlist we can open another class and accommodate all interested students!
May I take a free trial class?
Yes! If you are unsure of the class, your child may attend their 1st class with no obligation to join! We do prefer and recommend doing this earlier in the session, rather than later. It is difficult for a child to "jump in" to an established class. If you have questions about joining a particular class later in the year, just reach out! Fill out a contact us form and we will help you!
Are there prerequisites for a class?
Some classes do require a prerequisite, please check each class description carefully.
What is the dress code for my child's class?
The dress code is listed in the parent handbook which you can find here.
Will I be the oldest in class?
Classes are open to certain grade levels therefore all students are similar in age. Wonderland cannot guarantee the ages of students who enroll in a class.
How do I know what classes to enroll in?
Start by finding classes based on your child's grade level. Read class titles, days, times, and class descriptions carefully. If you still need help deciding, reach out to us via our contact us form.
How do I know if my child is placed in the correct class level?
Students are placed in class by grade level. Your instructor will reach out to you if they recognize your child should be in a different class level.
Should my child take multiple classes per week?
Each child is unique! Their age, maturity, dedication level, and readiness are all factors to consider when choosing classes. If you need further assistance or guidance, we are here to advise. Reach out via the contact us form on our site.
Can my child ONLY be in a live stage production without being in a class?
No. Students must audition for our KIDS company or JUNIOR company to participate in our productions. Once granted membership in the company, a student must be enrolled in at least one class to maintain company status.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes, we offer private lessons in Voice and Piano. We charge $30 for a 30-minute in-person lesson, and $20 for a 30-minute virtual lesson!
Is it possible to take a small-group Piano or Voice?
Yes, it is possible, but we do not recommend a group larger than 3 people. Small groups will operate similarly to private lessons but can be more cost-effective. They are a little trickier to set up, but they are possible. If your child has one or two friends who want to "split" a private lesson, email us to discuss rates, times, dates, and all possibilities involved.
Can I watch my child in class?
Yes, there are cameras in every studio. You can view your child's class through your Parent Portal on any mobile device!
When and where are the performance opportunities for students taking classes, and who performs in these shows?
Performance opportunities may pop up throughout the year in various forms. For instance, several classes are invited to perform at Acadian Village and the South College Shopping Center Christmas event each year. In the past WPA has also performed for fundraisers and events such as Kites Above Acadiana, Bastille Day, & Women's & Children's Hospital. As well, all students will perform with their class in Showcase at the end of the session. This year may be different due to the pandemic and the uncertainty of when we will be able to gather in large groups to attend performances again. We are closely following restrictions and guidelines and will inform our families as things develop and change. See our 'Showcase' FAQ section for more details.
Is the tuition monthly? Yearly?
The tuition of each class is charged monthly from September-May.
My child doesn't meet the prerequisites for a class but has taken something similar elsewhere, can I still take the class?
Please call the studio (337-534-8014) or fill out the contact us form on our site to discuss your child's previous experience before registering for a class with a prerequisite.
What are my commitment obligations?
When you enroll in a class you are committing to the entire session (Sept-May). We highly discourage withdrawing from a class before the session ends. Students are learning valuable skills and are usually preparing a performance piece. When a student drops, it affects the entire class. We do a lot of collaborating in class so if your child is leaving mid-session another student is losing his/her scene partner, dance partner, singing partner, etc. Remember: It takes 20,000 hours to become an expert in a field of study. Be patient and give yourself enough time to understand your craft & how it benefits you before deciding to drop out.
How do I withdraw from a class?
If you have considered your commitment obligations, and still need to make the decision to withdraw from class, you may do so by submitting a 30-day written notice to info@wonderlandperformingarts.com. Any withdrawal notifications received with less than 30 days' notice will still be subject to the following month's tuition payment. No withdrawal requests made in-person to the staff of Wonderland are considered appropriate or applicable. Withdraw Fee After October 1st - $50 Add-on/Schedule Change Fee After October 1st - $25
Any student withdrawing After February 15th will be required to pay for March, April & May tuition.
Where can I find my class materials?
Once enrolled in a class, it can be accessed through your Parent Portal on our Wonderland App. Each class will have a "RESOURCES" button. Your teacher will put materials such as scripts, sheet music, song tracks, etc. in this section of your app!! FUN!
Showcase
What is Showcase?
Showcase is a chance for each class to show off the skills learned throughout the year to family/friends! We hold our end-of-year Showcase in May.
Do I have to participate in Showcase?
Yes! All students participating in classes are required to perform for our end-of-year Showcase. You will be given the date ahead of time, so make this a priority for your family. If a student does not perform, their classmates are without a member of their group, and their absence hurts the rest of the class. Participation is essential to building self-discipline, self-accountability, team-work, and reliability which are of utmost importance in the arts and in life.
How much is it to participate in the showcase?
There is a one-time fee of $50 per student to participate in the end-of-year Showcase. If a student is in more than one class, you will only be charged one fee.
Company
How do I participate in a live stage production with Wonderland?
To participate in a live stage production, you must audition for KIDS or JR Company. KIDS Co is for grades 2-5 & JR Co is for grades 6-12.
What is KIDS Company & JUNIOR Company?
Company is Wonderland's stage production group for our serious performance students who want experience on stage multiple times per year. They want to dive deeper into their theatre studies, so they prioritize Company rehearsals & productions over other extracurricular activities. Joining Company means committing to the entire session (September-May). You only have to audition once in the fall, and if accepted, will be cast in all shows taking place within that session.
How much performance experience is required to audition for KIDS Company or JUNIOR Company?
Any student may audition for our KIDS Company or JUNIOR Company. If they are ready for this type of experience, if there is space in the company, and if the family agrees to all of the requirements to maintain company status, the student will be admitted into the company.
What happens if I am not granted Company status?
If a student is not admitted, it may be due to the amount of space available (company size will be limited), maturity, readiness, commitment, or previous behavioral issues. If you do not make it into our Production Company on your first try, don't give up! Choose a class, work on your skills, and try again next time auditions are open! Remember, it takes 20,000 hours to become an expert at something. Dream big, follow your heart, be deliberate in your efforts, and keep reaching for the stars!
When are Company Rehearsals?
KIDS Company rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 5:45 pm-7:15 pm. JUNIOR Company rehearsals are held on Mondays & Thursdays from 6:45 pm-8:30 pm.
What if my child has a conflict and can not attend a company rehearsal?
All conflicts should be listed on your company audition form. We ask that you only miss due to illness or emergency. When a cast member is not at rehearsal it is very difficult to rehearse any scenes or choreography without them. 3 or more unplanned absences in one session may result in losing company status.
Am I required to take at least one class in addition to attending Company rehearsals?
Yes. We require all Company members to be enrolled in at least one skill-building class.
Are private lessons an approved class for Company members?
Students are allowed to take private lessons as their required class while being a Company member. If private lessons must be stopped for any reason, the student must then be transferred to another class.
